History of the Burma Star Association

16.7.02

Dear Paul,

I see that there is a notice on your site about info. only being about Burma.

I think 160 sqd was very much to do with Burma as it flew there doing PR work. altho' based in Ceylon. The Email to you was from my sister Wendy Garcia re: this sqd as she had seen an article from the 160 sqd newsletter. I came across it in my researches. 1 Photo Recce Unit RAF Benson, was stationed here during WW2 and some very famous photos were processed right where I sit (Mohne dam busted) etc. I recently set up an exhibition about it at our Central Library in Westgate, Oxford. Of course I learned that one PR sqd was based in Ceylon from the Conyers Nesbit book. 'Eyes of the RAF' Koggala, in Ceylon was well known to us as we were taken to the airfield on caravan holidays to bathe in the coral pools. My uncle served there too.//I would dearly love to know which estate/plantation the writer of the diaries contained in the 160 sqd newsletter stayed at and have just found the Editor's Email address and have contacted him. However, the Burma star site would be a very good one to put in a request if possible. By the way, have you heard of 'Helen of Burma?

Sincerely,

Anne Winter Williams
