HARRY WINFIELD

HARRY WINFIELD - Private Joseph William Henry (Harry) Winfield served with the 7th Battalion of the Leicestershire Regiment that formed part of the Chindits.   He originally came from Underwood/Jacksdale in Nottingham.

Harry died on July 22nd 1944 when he was a predominant part in an ambush on the Japanese at Kyunslai Pass in Central Burma.  He was one of a small number of British fatalities.

Len's Captain was Mr. R.L. (Polly) Perkins.  He had the task of writing the sad news of Harry's death to his wife.  Harry had been left with the M.O. and he was to take his patient for treatment at a small village nearby.  That is the only news we have to date, but the family would like to know more.  If you can help, please contact the pecbsa@btconnect.com

Harry's name is listed in the Roll of Honour at Leicester Cathedral for the 22nd July 1944.
