Thomas Waters, known as Darkie.

My father died when I was 9. Came from Denaby South Yorks.  He joined the KOYLIs in 1936. Number 4689589.  He was in India from1936/7 and Burma 1937/42. He then went on to join Mike Calvert at the bush warfare school at Maymyo

He was in special operations in China 1942. Flown out to India from
Yunnan. He was in India until 1943. Met my mother in India.

Went to UK April 1943. July 1943 transferred to Royal Signals Airborne.
Landed in glider at Pegasus Bridge 1944. Decorated in the field MM during this action. Horribly injured 1944.

Found work as a postman but was killed in a road accident while at work.

The Royal Signal regiment commissioned a painting of the Pegasus Bridge
