GEORGE CARPENTER - 1st Btn ROYAL LINCOLNSHIRE REGT:-I have had the great honour of cleaning my father-in-law's two Burma star's. Does any one know of George Carpenter, attached to the 1st Royal Lincolnshire Regiment. He asssisted in capturing Ramree Island from the Japanes. He is still alive,( 80 Yrs ) but I would like to surprise him with a gift with some one who knew him in that Regiment on Ramree Island. This would truly make him very happy. ROBERT (BOB) ERNEST LANE - 3rd BATT 28th FIELD REGT ROYAL ARTILLERY:- I am emailing you regards your request as to any members serving in the 3rd Battery of the 28th Field Regt RA.
                 My father was in this regiment and I am also trying to find any lost comrades of whom might of known him .
His name was Robert (Bob)Ernest Lane .now deceased but I don't give up looking for him as I  know how much this has meant to him over the years .
If you can help me or know of any one who knew my father I would much appreciate this very much .

THOMAS IRVINE - 8th BELFAST HAA REGT RA:- Hi Paul I am trying to find information on Thomas Irvine my Father, now deceased. He served with the 8th Belfast Heavy Anti Aircraft regt in Burma. TOM WATKINSON - 1st BTN ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGT:-I'm doing this for my dad, Tom Watkinson, who is now ninety. He was in the 1st Battalion the Royal Berkshires. He fought at Kohima and was at the tennis court battle. He never picked up the medals he was entitled to and would like them now. His number was 5341746. He joined up on the 20-3-40. Names I've heard him mention are Doug Wells, Len Temple, Les Rice and Shiner Green.

CFN 10584810 FIELDEN RATCLIFFE - R.E.M.E. - 5 LIGHT SCOUT CAR CO.:- Fielden's son Graham is seeking information about his father's time in Burma.  We understand that he and his colleagues were used for deception purposes by taking sound equipment into the jungle and broadcast sounds of tanks etc so that the Japanese would target them and not the actual equipment.

PTE 5622426 FRANK 'FRANKIE' COLES - 1st BTN DEVONSHIRE REGIMENT:- I am looking for help in contacting any people who may have been comrades of my late father Private Frank Coles 5622426 of The Devonshire regiment 1st battalion, he was posted to Ceylon and Burma during his service and from his mod records I know he received the Burma star.  I would dearly love to hear from anyone who knew him and could tell me more about him and his time in the army.  I understand his used Frankie as his nicknameColes family on ColesFamily2000@aol.com

 

JOHN CUSICK - ROYAL SCOTS REGIMENT:- My father, John Cusick died on 5th January 2002. I have found his Burma Star Medal along with two other medals and would like to find first of all  how I can get them cleaned up and where I can get the appropriate ribbons for them.

Secondly and most importantly, my dad wouldn't talk much about the war so we have very little knowledge about his contribution. I know that he served in the Royal Scots and he did mention Imphal and Kohima but would be very grateful for any information that you can provide or any contacts which I should make.

CPL NORMAN HASSALL EX4039 ROYAL MARINES:- My Father CPL Norman Hassall EX4039 was in the Royal Marines in WW2 from 1940-1946.
He was born in Winsford Cheshire.
My Self being an ex-RM, in the 60's, and attending CTCRM every year, also a member of 42 Cdo Association
After all this time I took it upon myself to trace his war Medals, as he his now sadly no longer with us in fact he died in the 60,s while I was serving in the Marines.
It was with great Pride when I received my Fathers Burma Star. I have again taken upon myself to, Hopefully, register his name (on his behalf) to this very proud band of brothers.

Captain 134273 Graham Cowell Hosegood, South Wales Borderers attd 13th Bn The King's Regiment (Liverpool). He sailed for India on the Oransay on 8th Dec from Liverpool.  He was on the first Chindit expedition into Burma as an Intelligence Officer. Captured by the Japanese and was imprisoned in Rangoon jail where he died 9th April 1945.  I am interested in any information about Graham and the role he played in Burma and Rangoon.  Please contact me at Liz@Hosegoode.freeserve.co.uk

 

 

WILFRED SHIRLEY - ROYAL TANK REGIMENT:- My Uncle is Wilfred Shirley from Witney, Oxfordshire. He is now 80 years old and would like to hear any news of old comrades living or dead.

He was in the Royal Tank Regiment (drove a Sherman) and saw action in Kohima and Imphal.

He can remember Bombay, Secundrabad, Agra, Delhi and Redfort.

On route to the Far East he travelled on The Highland Brigade and Highland Princess ships. He remembers being told of fall of Singapore on the way which was their original destination.
He returned home in 1946.

Any news at all would mean a great deal to him as he lost touch with all his friends out there.

RICHARD THOMAS FOLGATE - ROYAL WEST KENT REGT:- I am trying to find information about my grandfather who served in the second world war in the QUEENS OWN ROYAL WEST KENT.  I can't find any info about this regiment, his name was RICHARD THOMAS FOLGATE. COLONEL John Etty-Leal - GLOUCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT - 2nd BRITISH DIVISION:- Grandson Sam writes "My Grandfather, John Etty-Leal, was with the Gloucesters, I'm afraid I don't know who he served under... SYDNEY HURST - 44th L.A.A. ROYAL ARTILLERY - LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT:- Granddaughter Julie writes "Hello, I am trying to find information about my Great Grandfather Sydney Hurst who served in Burma. I believe he was in the 44th ( Leicester Regiment)Anti-Aircraft Battalion RE (T.A). He passed away in April of this year and we have many photos of his war days and I would love to hear from anyone who remembers him or knows of him."

QMS ALBERT WARDLE - 8th LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS:- Grandson James writes "

I am trying to find information about my grandfather Albert Wardle of the 8th Lancashsire Fusiliers no. 3442449.
 
He was a Quarter Master Sergent in Burma.
 
I have some of the old group photos + old paper details of operations from Dec 4th 1944 to April 10th 1945.
 
How can I find more about the campaigns, and also if anybody who served with him is still alive, as I only knew him as an old man who did when I was 6.
 
 He was also in Dunkirk in 1940 then North Africa, then I believe Burma.
 
Could you tell me how I would get his service record and any other tips on a successful search.

JOHN HERBERT (JACK) SCARROW - KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY:- Granddaughter Sarah writes "

My grandad was called John Herbert (or Jack) Scarrow (Died 31st January 2002). WE are not sure which battalion think it was Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and have found his diary that he wrote which documents his journey from England to India in 1941. We know he went by ship and departed on August 29th 1941. The ship stopped at Free Town on September14th: Cape town 30th : 1st Oct K.O.Y.L.I's have a parade - Major Harwoth Takes Command (Clarri Sims, Harry Dixon named)?: Oct 9 paraded on ship with HQ guard ?: 13th mentions LT. Sherwin: Sun 12th Oct HMS Repulse joined convoy: At 11.30 on 22nd of Oct 1941 arrived in Bombay: Friday 24th Oct 1941 left boat for Poohna.
Can any one give us any more information names mentioned are: Richardson Simms Gelder Rollinson Simpson Grainger Simmonite ? Butcher Oakley Norton? Exley Barron Staley Page Broomheart Coultram Sayles Abramar Outram Cooper Urwin Saples Harper Sharpe

EB (EBENEZER) BUTLER - 688 SQUADRON:-

I am writing on behalf of my father Ebenezer (Eb) Butler from Carlisle who served in Burma 1944-46.  He was in 688 Squadron in Lalaghat. He trained in 3BFTS Miami, Oklahoma and would like to hear from anyone who may have been there too.
