CPL Harold Harris 4750401 York & Lancaster - Regiment 2nd & 6th Batallions:-

This is a request from my dad, CPL Harold Harris 4750401 York & Lancaster Regiment 2nd & 6th Batallions. He was in Bombay during1942 in the India Riots, can remember Dodally camp, Ranche and later went on jungle training. In 1943 he was in Genor and then flew into Burma, and later was in the column the Chindits. Places he remembers are, Mondaw, Yitkina, Indaw Pass and can remember flying from Lake Indaw by Sunderland flying boat. After that he was wounded and suffered other illness. The last men he can remember are, Mitchel, Hardy and Welch who he believes were from Sheffield. Harold is now 84 and living in Huddersfield and would love to hear from anybody who remembers him or who was at any of the places mentioned. Some of the spelling might not be that accurate but he is obviously relying on memory. Modern technology has not caught up with him yet so if anybody has any information then please email me. Thanks and regards, Brian Harris. callme@brianharrisbhd.f2s.com

JOHN (JACK) MATTHEWS- IRISH GUARDS / ROYAL ENGINEERS / CHINDITS:- My Name is Christopher Jones, I am searching for people who knew my grandfather (Jack Matthews) during the war time, as far as I know he was in the far east for the duration of the war, he was in the Irish Guards, then the Royal Engineers and I believe the pioneer corps at the end of the war. He started the war in Singapore, was evacuated just before it fell on the second to last transport ship that got out, ended up in Burma, was attached to the Chindits for a while, and ended up back in Singapore at the end of the war in 1945. I hope that there may still be one or two veterans alive who may remember him and maybe they could get in touch. thanks in advance for any help in this matter Christopher chris.cmj.jones@talk21.com
