ARTHUR WILLIAM TAYLOR - GLOUCESTERSHIRE REGT:- Paul Carter writes "

My Grandfather passed away last April aged 83. I'm trying to research his military history, as he gave little away during his life.

I do know he served in the Glosters and that he served in Burma where he used to lead Donkeys through the jungle!! During this he was injured by shrapnel, which he thought was his way out, but they patched him up and sent him back. He was also on leave just before christmas when he and some mates from the Melksham, Wiltshire area decided they'd prefer some Xmas dinner to a trip back. They were quickly rounded up and spent a night in the cells!!

Thanks in advance for any info"  paulcarter4@excite.co.uk

JACK (AUGUSTIN) RODRIGUEZ - STH STAFFORDSHIRE REGT & CHINDITS:- My uncle, was in the South Staffordshire regiment in WW2 and took part in the Chindits campaign in Burma in 1944. I can still remember him telling me about some of the experiences and narrow escapes he had while fighting the Japs in the jungle.

Unfortunately, he has since passed away and his family have told me that they have no records of his war time service. I remember the last time I spoke to him on the phone, he told me with, evident pride,  that he had served in the South Staffordshire regiment.

Can you please tell me how I can find out more about his service record.  Would any WW2 records ,  of the men of the  South Staffordshire Regiment who served with the Chindits,  be kept in the archives at the Regiments's  museum ?

Although he was known  as Jack,  his full name on enlistment would have been, Agustin Rodriguez. I presume that because he was with the Chindits,  he would have served in the 1st Btn of the South Staffordshire   Regiment. Yours sincerely, Patrick Holland on lambeth@cygnus.uwa.edu.au

REGINALD GLEN WOOD - ROYAL NAVY/POW:- This is a desperate long shot but worth the try. I am trying to find anyone who may have known my wife's father REGINALD GLEN WOOD. He died when my wife was quite young and she has only some sketchy information about him. He served in the Royal Navy and was wounded (said he was shot in the back) and taken prisoner by the Japanese in Burma or thereabouts. We don't know his service number or date of enlistment or even the name of the ship he served on so unless we can find someone who knew him, there is little chance of us ever finding any more about him. He came from the Cape Town area in South Africa. If this rings any bells with anyone, please get in touch.
