Billy (Bill) Leach Hudson - East Surrey Regiment/Changi Gaol:- Son Geoff writes "
My father, Mr Billy Leach Hudson (known as Bill)
who was in the East Surrey Regiment, I believe based in Kingston upon Thames,
fought in the Burma campaign and was imprisoned in the Changi POW camp. Sadly
my father died some eight years ago and I still greatly miss him. During my
youth I was aware of his mood swings and his anger and despite obviously
suffering greatly from his experiences was a very supportive father. One of
the very few details that I do know is that upon release he returned to the UK
by ship so as to convalesce - finally docking at Liverpool (I believe).
I would love to make contact with anyone who spent
time with him during the war who could fill in some of the many gaps for me
and the rest of the family.
If anyone can help with this matter I will be very
grateful.
Geoff Hudson on posers.laneside@virgin.net VIC BROWN - CHINDITS - ROYAL SUSSEX REGT & ROYAL WARWICKSHIRE REGT:- Son Michael writes " My father Vic Brown is very seriously ill in hospital at the moment. It would cheer him greatly to hear from any old comrades he had from his "Chindit" days. We have put up a piece he did for a local newspaper including old Burma photos on his hospital ward wall. I think he was there in 1944. He was in the Royal Sussex Regiment and the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was about to invade Malaya I think when the Japanese surrendered in August. He caught Mileria saw Vera Lynn and Earl Mountbatten whilst he was out there. He lives in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. He lived there when he enlisted during the war. Incidentally, as he was too young to join the Army he lied about his date of birth, the date he gave was 13th April 1923 ( 6 months older than he was) When he met my mother from Birmingham after the war he found out her birthday was the 13th April 1923. I hope you can help. Kind Regards Michael Brown Mike.Brown@LawSociety.org.uk His proud son.

MAJOR DICK (RICHARD JOHN) POWERS - 17 DIV:-
Son Michael writes "I am the son of Richard John Powers.(Dick) 17th div Black cat-----(Major) Dad passed on 2years ago aged 93!! and like many others was always very reticent about his activities- I have his medals and a number of photographs taken in Burma. (He was actually born in Burma in 1906) I would be happy to scan and forward photos to anybody who could enlighten me with further details!! I can be contacted on silver@smartchat.net.au I have dug further into things and have found a copy of Pan/Ballantyne soft cover book "SLIM" published in 1973- Dad has written on the cover - "Major R Powers "I.E.M.E."- Comanding Officer 559 (554?) Workshops Ceylon and Southern India" This is followed by a notation -Promoted to 4Corps 17 Indian Div. (also 19th and 20th ) Earlier photograph (in greatcoat) has a caption "Royal College of Military Science" (Captain)-This would have to be 1936 on as the picture of him smoking a pipe is actually DATED Christmas eve 1942 and taken in Ceylon. At this point you may be curious about what it is I want to know ? If at all possible I want to establish what happened to him during the period 1942- 1945/6-did he remain in Ceylon and then travel up from Singapore after it was all over?( I have no pictures between these dates.) Or could he have been too occupied to worry about taking photographs? He did tell me once that he was involved with salvaging as much as possible from a Spitfire/Hurricane which had been shot down. IN THE JUNGLE For many years he used to spray his roses with a little brass pump which had a tag "Ki-Gas" as I recall, also he had an altimeter with about fifteen feet of what appeared to be a braided copper or dulled brass tube- this was his weather guage in the green house!!! My point in all this is- to the best of my knowledge no Spitfires or Hurricanes were shot down in Ceylon and that is along way to go for a few bits!!!!!
