THOMAS RITCHIE - KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS:

My father, Thomas RITCHIE (died 1966) was a member of Kings Own Scottish Borderers, and as I understand it, he was in Burma throughout campaign.   Like others, he did not talk about the atrocities, so I have little to go on for family history research.   At the time of enlistment he lived in St. Boswells, Roxburghshire, and return there upon his demob at the end of the WW2.   Any info would be appreciated.

MACHINE GUNNER JOHN 'BENNY' LYNCH - MANCHESTER REGT/CHINDITS:-

As an ex-member of the 'Junior' Service, more recent than your time, I seek some help.

I appreciate that the subject of John 'Benny' Lynch [Manchester Regiment] may not be one you are familiar with but here goes:

John is my Father-in-law and is not well at the moment. He is undergoing treatment at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. A private man he would not like me to say any more.

However, he often speaks of his time in Burma as a Chindit and Batman. He lost all of his photos, Menus signed by many a General [he spent some time as a batman I believe]. John was a Machine Gunner [often had arguments with my Father who served as a Gunner - though some years later - something about long-range sniping].

If there is anyone who might remember John, please could they throw me a story that I might surprise him with?

If there isn't thanks anyway

Bill died in the early 60s from recurring illness from the war. The only photo I had was destroyed when my house burned down, I live in hope that someone has a memory of my lovely and much missed uncle. Sue Robinson on americanpie@eurobell.co.uk

ROBERT CYRIL (BOB) ROGERS - ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGT:- I'm wondering if anyone out there may recall my father, either directly or by anecdote. His name, like mine, was Robert Cyril (Bob) Rogers. He served in the Royal Berkshires and was at the relief of Kohima in 1943. He has described that terrible time in some detail and mentioned several mates he was with at the time whose names are now unfortunately lost. He was a red-haired Welshman of around 5'3'' but 'lied about his height'. He was wounded by shrapnel and also suffered for the rest of his life from recurrent malaria but, despite the tragic times he went through, he never tired of telling us of his adventures.  Bob Rogers on bobwales@hotmail.com

CPL THOMAS FREDRICK POWELL - MANCHESTER REGT:- I'm trying to research into my grandfather's military past, his name was Thomas Frederick Powell and was a Cpl. Sadly I was too young to realise the significance of his experiences and knowledge, and therefore I didn't get any information about his military past from him. Yet now I am determined to find as much about him and his movements during his military campaigns as possible. I believe that he was in the (2nd Burma Div, Manchester reg), does any one have any knowledge about that? or any knowledge about my grandad himself? I would like to thank you for any information.
