Douglas Roycroft Born Wallasey, 23rd August 1919. Died peacefully in Leighton hospital, Crewe, on the 15th July 2002 after a long illness, aged 82. During the war he served initially with the army RAMC; the 4th Division of the 1st Army; and R.A.O.C. In 1943 he was posted to Burma R.E.M.E. attached to 8th (Belfast) H.A.A. Regiment, as a radar mechanic in the Arakan. In early 1945 he was promoted to sergeant and went to C.I.E.M.E. Corps Troops until the end of the war, when he went as Superintendent W.O.1 D.M.E. Office H.Q. 15 Indian Corps to Batavia, Java to help liberate Dutch internees. After the war he trained as a primary school teacher and taught first in Birmingham and then in Sandbach, Cheshire, until his retirement in 1978 after 29 years service.
