The wife of the late 2nd Lt. V.T. SANDERS is trying to trace anyone who may have known him.  He was taken prisoner and for a time was in No. 2 P.O.W. Camp in Thailand.  Lt. SANDERS originated from Essex.

Mrs. Sanders writes "Here's what I know - Vincent was commissioned in India and I don't quite know how that came about. His family lived in Essex. He was stationed on the North West Frontier of (then) India.  He told me he loved the adventure of that but I don't think he would feel the same today ! His full name was Vincent Tilney Sanders.

He said that he was in a "transport mob".  They were kitted out in winter clothes (!) and sent to Singapore two weeks before the Fall.  His only spoken about anger against the Japanese was because they took his trucks away ! I believe he was demobbed, after rescue, in Egypt.

He then spent a very short time in England, but could not bear the hemmed in feeling that he had there. So he shipped himself out to Australia and straight through to Papua New Guinea, where he lived until his death in 1981 at age 64. (As usual, a criminally short life for an ex POW).

If anyone does remember Vincent, could you please contact Mrs. Sanders  on sanders@swisp.net.au
