GENERAL SIR ANTONY READ
The obituary of General Sir
Antony Read reported in The Times of Friday October 6, 2000
Born 10-09-1913
commissioned into the
Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (43rd/52nd) in 1934 served a
number of years in Africa where he was awarded the MC during the campaign
against the Italians
He went to Burma with the 81st
West African Division and took part in General Slim's 2nd Arakan campaign.
Awarded DSO in March 1945 and briefly commanded the 6th West African Brigade
in Burma
Went on to become Quartermaster
General of the Army 1969-72
