Jerry Quayle on jerry.quayle@btinternet.com writes: I am looking for information on my Dad LESLIE QUAYLE who volunteered for the first campaign (I presume) from his tented hospital base in India because he was bored!. Dropped in behind the lines, lost some comrades in the drop and walked out with 6 others, eventually to be picked up by Wellington bomber from a makeshift field to be taken to Chitagong. He then returned to service and went on an ambulance ship to Singapore and then home to UK. He was also in the BEF leaving Dunkirk on a stretcher badly wounded. He is still going at 84 and refuses to say much more. He was a medic, I think with the Lancs/Yorks Regiment. Any of you old Chindits remember him? Cheers Jerry Quayle (Son) |
