History of the Burma Star Association

MAJOR GEOFFREY PAWSON

My name is Simon Pawson, my father Major Geoffrey Pawson passed away three years ago. I know very little about his service in Burma, except the fact that he was very proud of his time in the military, and I would like to do some further research.

We have tried to seek his service record through the Army Records Department in Britain, however nothing has been uncovered as yet.

The reason for my email is that I have some confusion about his regiment. On the back of a photo he has written Captain Geoffrey Pawson 17th Indian Division, 2/2 Punjab regiment, however in several photo's he is wearing a patch with a sword running through it with the roman numerals XIV, which would indicate the 14th Army.

Major Pawson is also mentioned on several occasions in a book called "With The 14th Army" that was published in 1948.

I am also in the possession of a lot of photo's in which Major Pawson is featured with Slim & Wingate. I also recently bought on video a documentary about the campaign in Burma, where there is footage of Major Pawson with Mountbatten. So as you can see there is some intrest in him.

Can you clarify or assist in anyway in regards to clarification of Major Pawson's unit or regiment and if you may have any further information on him or where I can find some. Are there also any contacts in Sydney, Australia that may be able to assist me. I can be contacted on spawson@radisson.com
