LEN
MAWBY Len Mawby sadly passed away at the Leicester Royal Infirmary on the 1st November 2008. He was a past Secretary of the Wigston Branch of the Burma Star Association and devoted much of his life to the Association. RN 169263 Len Mawby served between 1939 and 1943 with the Royal Navy in the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Mediterranean. Len remembered his Navy shipmates Curly Hughes from Walton in Liverpool, and Larry Fleming, an ex-pawnbroker's assistant also from Liverpool. Is there anyone 'out there' reading this, who also served on the sloop, H.M.S. Sandwich between 1939 and 1943, and then on the carrier H.M.S. Ranee between 1943 and 1945. Len was the very much respected Secretary of the Wigston and District Branch of the Burma Star Association. He was extremely keen on all sports, having been an excellent boxer in his time and footballer. Len was also a scout for the Leicester City Football Club, one of his remarkable 'finds' being the England international, Emile Heskey. Len's son David is available on: 0116-2911879
