L.A.C. – 1276705 THOMAS JAMES ISLWYN LEWIS . ( TAFF ) .

THIS IS SERVICE RECORD OF
WHO SERVED IN FOLLOWING SQUADRONS .


 

 152 SQUADRON – 2 MONTHS , 134 SQUADRON – 2 YEARS

358 SQUADRON S.D. – 3 MONTHS , 357 SQUADRON S.D. 11 MONTHS .

 Tom joined up first in T. A.`S in 1939 after training in Cowbridge S. Wales.  He was sent back to work in the mines . He then re-enlisted 1941 where he carried out his training in Penarth – Blackpool then onto 152 squadron at Coltishall in Norfolk.  He also went to Ireland where he joined 134 squadron ( which was being reformed ) before going off to the Middle East .

In 1942 set sail from Liverpool to South Africa ( in the troopship RANGITATA ) and then on up to Eygpt . In 1943 went with 134 squadron to India . Later he was transferred to Burma with  358 S.D. squadron and then to C. Flight 357 S.D. squadron . Tom was then demobbed in 1946 . He has quite a good memory and still comes out with the stories of his time in the service .
