SGT IAN JENKINS
South Staffordshire Regiment

Mike Collman writes:

Hi I hope you can point me in the right direction I had a grandfather who was in the South Staffs and served with the Chindits, he died when I was was a young lad in the sixtys. I know that he was in the RA before transferring to the South Staffs, his name was Bill Jenkins he was a cockney and I believe his army number was 5736482 I also believe he was a sergeant who kept being busted to corporal then jacked up to sergeant. He served for two years or more in Burma and was invalided to Ceylon with malaria on one occasion. I am trying to fill in all the missing bits that I can about his time in the Chindits, I am told by my mother that he would not talk to any one about this time Regards Mike Collman on m.collman@ntlworld.com
