Click Here to go to the Personnel Section Many thanks to Roland Powell for the following information: 99 Indian Infantry Brigade was formed in 04/41, and served in Ceylon and India before joining 17 Indian Division in 08/44, then preparing for the reconquest of Burma. It was an airmobile brigade consisting of 6/15 Punjab, 1/3 GR and 1 Sikh LI and flew into Meiktila on 27/02/45. 1 E Yorks was a regular battalion and had been in India since before the war. It joined 99 Ind Bde in 04/45, replacing 6/15 Punjab, and fought in the battles of the Rangoon Road and the Sittang. The brigade was attached to 19 Ind Div for a time and fought along the Kalaw road. It then rejoined 17 Ind Div and remained in Burma until 1946/47. 1 E Yorks returned to the UK in 1946. The brigade was commanded by George L Tarver from 01/45 and by Maurice V Wright from 03/45 to 03/46. I hope that this brief note has been of some help.
