SQMS COLIN BAIN R.A.O.C.

Colin - then

1984 - when working for Kodak

Colin Bain was born in India in 1924.  On the 19th June 1943, he joined the East Yorkshire Regiment and served with them in Burma.  He was attached to the Chindit expedition and was supplied with a 'Chindit Scarf' to use as an escape map should he become separated from his patrols.

Colin was awarded the 1939-45 star, the Burma Star and the 1939-45 war medal.  He returned home from Burma and on the 10th September 1948 enlisted in the 6th Battalion Royal Army Ordnance Corps at Chilwell and with them, went to West Africa and then Korea, adding the Korea Medal and the United Nations Medal to his collection.

Throughout his service, Colin was an excellent all-round athlete as well as being an excellent Clerk/Technician.

In August 1953 having reached the rank of Warrant Officer 1st Class, Colin transferred to the Army Reserve with whom he remained until his discharge in September 1960.

Colin worked for the Kodak company until his retirement and he sadly passed away in England in January 1997.  His wife Mary died some two years later leaving two 'children' Ann and Deryk.

Ann can be contacted on amcs@systemax.co.uk
