My father  was in the 14th Army, 27th Field Regiment, which when he first joined was the RAOC then later the REME, my father was a professional (welder, sheet metal worker, fabricator). I know my father started in the Royal Artillery, but he was more fond of the name REME as he was there at the conception of the idea.
