WARRANT SERGEANT 1478479 ROY ALBERT WOOD - 87th LIGHT ANTI-AIRCRAFT REGIMENT, ROYAL ARTILLERY:- 
   
Sergeant Roy Albert Wood died at home aged 94 on 13 April 2002.

In 1939 he was one of the first to join the Royal Artillery, the 87th Light Anti-Aircraft unit that was formed in Aldershot.

He served for a total of 5 years, spending 2 ½ of them in India and Burma where he was mentioned in despatches for distinguished service after he helped repel a Japanese attack. This was a part of his life he never talked about but he always carried in his wallet a picture of his comrades.

Roy came back to England with ague and malaria. He convalesced in Liverpool and Coventry before coming back to Aldershot where he married and had one son, Rodney.
