14th PUNJAB REGIMENT

During the second world war the 14th were made up of the following battalions :

  • 1st Bat - India, Malaya. Captured in Singapore in Feb 1942.
  • 2nd Bat (Duke of Cambridge's) - India, Hong Kong, Captured in Dec 1941.
  • 3rd Bat - India, Egypt, Aden, Italian East Africa, Burma.
  • 4th Bat - India, Burma, Siam.
  • 5th Bat (Pathans) - India, Malaya. Captured in Singapore in Feb 1942.
  • 6th Bat - India, Singapore. Captured in Singapore in Feb 1942.
  • 7th Bat - India, Burma.
  • 8th Bat - India, Ceylon, Burma, French Indo-China.
  • 14th Bat - India.
  • 15th Bat - Jungle Training unit, India.

Towards the end of the war they had trouble getting recruits as the 14th Punjab regiment has 4 battalions in Japanese hands.
